About the role: Under the direct supervision of the MRF Production Supervisor, the MRF Loader Operator provides routine movement of recyclables and others duties related to the Municipality’s Materials Recovery Facility.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to guiding incoming trucks, performing a daily vehicle inspection, feeding material onto moving conveyors, assisting in opening bags and precutting materials for fiber line, assist Baler Operator in emptying bunkers, and maintaining and cleaning equipment regularly. This is a unionized position with CUPE 4106.
 
Salary Range:  $26.86 per hour. 40 hour work week, Monday to Friday
 
Qualities to succeed in the role:
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions required when working around heavy equipment and public.
  • Ability to perform physical labour tasks.
  • Ability to maintain high productivity and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
 
Education & experience required:
  • Valid NS Driver’s License, with a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
  • Excellent communications skills (listening and verbal); to work effectively as a team member.
  • Minimum 1 year Loader Operator experience, or equivalent training experience
  • Possess problem solving ability; be self directing; possess the ambition, ability and persistence to obtain productivity and efficiency, and have the ability to multi-task.
  • Mechanical aptitude sufficient to perform minor repairs.
  •  Knowledge of general equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Confined Space Certification, required.
